RE: The racism discussions.. You sometimes hear (usually white) people say I dont care if someone is black or white or brown or green or purple! ...usually trying to use that to say theyre blind to color/race. But it often comes across as ridiculous, or willfully blind to the differences in how others are treated. Our family has passed this story around for years: Back in the 70s when they began forced school integration, bussing kids to other schools, one bus driver got so irritated at the constant bickering between the white kids and the black kids. Exasperated, he pulled the bus over to the side of the road, opened the door, and said THATS ENOUGH! Everybody off the bus! So, the kids all trudged off the bus. The driver began to lecture them. Look - nobody likes this bussing thing, having to go to different schools, leaving old friends. But Im sick and tired of all the fighting. You all need to just be color blind. Thats it - from now on, were all GREEN, okay? Were all just GREEN! Got it? Now..... everybody back on the bus.... dark green in the back, light green in the front.
