REGION 10 FALL TRAINING IS HERE!! We look forward to seeing you at Region 10’s PTA Fall Training! This is a great way to fulfill the Bylaw requirement, that every elected officer must attend at least one training during the 2013-14 school year. DATE: Thursday, August 22th 2013 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm PLACE: Foss High School, 2112 S. Tyler St. Tacoma, WA 98405 COST: New this year, training will be at NO COST to your unit. The schedule is as follows: 3:00-5:15 Vendors 4:00 -5:25 Registration, Dinner and Council Round-tables (leadership packets available) 5:30-6:10 Welcome, Election of Region Nominating Committee 6:15-7:30 Class Session 1 101 Leading with Excellence (President/Vice President) 102 Money Matters (Treasurer) 103 Membership Basics 104 Secretary, “More than Just Minutes” 105 Legislative - Advocacy and Leg. Basics 7:45 – 9:00 Class Session 2 201 Committee Chairs : Communicate, Collaborate, Coordinate 202 Best Practices (all board members) 203 Communication for Today’s PTA 204 PTA and School Administrators 205 Reflections REGION 10 FALL TRAINING CLASS DESCRIPTIONS FIRST SESSION 101- Leading with Excellence To be a leader, one must be able to influence others to accomplish a goal or an objective. An effective leader must also be able to contribute to the cohesion of a group. Learn from this presentation how to be an exceptional leader by working collectively with your board, school administrators and your community leaders. 102- Money Matters-Financial management of the PTA is not just the responsibility of the treasurer. Legal and fiduciary requirements and responsibilities are covered in this workshop. Recommended for Treasures and all elected officers and other interested board members are encouraged to attend. 103- Membership Basics-As a membership organization WSPTA members are vital to our success. Learn the components of a membership campaign, how to encourage participation, and ideas to recognize the members who work tirelessly for children. Recommended for membership chairs and interested board members. 104- Secretary – More than Just Minutes This class will touch on all aspects of being a successful secretary! Learn the what, how and why of keeping records, what does and does not go into minutes, and how to assist in preparing meeting agendas. 105- Legislative – Advocacy and Leg Basics -This class will help you navigate the road of PTA Advoacy and Legislative basics by introducing you to the advocacy world. Learn what it means to be an advocate for your PTA unit, your child and your school. SECOND SESSION 201- Volunteers – The Foundation of PTA . Volunteers are the heart and soul of the PTA organization. Who to reach out to as volunteers, how to move passed the obstacles seen as reasons not to volunteer, and how to engage and honor your volunteers. 202- Best Practices Striving for best practices helps to create strong and viable PTAs. Learn what best practices look like and see where your PTA may be able to improve for added success. 203- Communication for Today’s PTA - This class will touch on different communications for your PTA from newsletters to social media. 204- PTA and School Administrators, A Partnership - PTAs, school principals, superintendents and school boards need to build successful partnerships to reach our common goal. Success for every child. Learn valuable techniques for communicating and understanding the similarities and differences of each partner, and discuss how to make the most of these pivotal relationships. 205- Reflections –Learn the nuts and bolts on running your council and local unit Reflection program .
