ROTAX NORTH EAST CHALLENGE at NEW JERSEY MOTORSPORTS PARK - OCTOBER 10-12. The last two rounds of the NE Rotax Championship found myself and three other racers in a dead heat for the title. After a dry Friday practice, Saturdays rain forecast was accurate, and it was a downpour all day. We were looking good in practice but come the race we did not have much straight line speed and I finished fourth. The rain dried up for Sunday and we qualified fourth, the motor was not as good as we thought it would be so we switched to our 2nd motor. My 2nd motor ran well and Ugo and I had a very close race, drafting for all of the laps. It was a great race and I finished 3rd on Sunday and 3rd in the championship. ROTAX PAN AMERICAN CHALLENGE at GO PRO MOTORPLEX, MOORESVILLE, NC - OCTOBER 15-19. Two days after the regional races at NJMP, we were heading to Mooresville, NC for the Rotax Pan American Challenge (the “Pan Am”). This is a super-competitive and very prestigious race with the best racers from the United States, Canada and South American countries and even some from Europe. Wednesday and Thursday practice went very well. Friday was qualifying day and myself and my team mate set the fastest times in the practice sessions. In the qualifying session our plan unraveled somewhat and I was not able to set a good time in the draft. I qualified 11th which was not great, but not terrible. Saturday and Sunday simply did not go well. Out of the three heat races, the pre-final and final, I was taken out by other drivers crashes twice and on one of the heats I had a bad fuel pump. With the bad luck, it was very hard just to make progress with tuning and setup. It was just a really tough couple of days, but I am confident I could have done much better and these are things to learn from. The level of racing was awesome. Well done to Pan American Micro Max champion, Ugo, who had an awesome race and deservedly took the win and to Chris Bogart for his 3rd place finish in Rotax Masters. It was great to see our friends and fellow North East racers win and make it to the podium. Thanks to my sponsors, Prospect 33, my coach and tuner Chris Bogart, my PaPaw and Aunt Deanna for coming to watch me race and cheer me on, the DeFonce Family for your encouragement, Emma D. for her encouragement and to my parents, brother and sister for your encouragement and support.
