RTFD has a levy on the upcoming ballot to begin 24 hour staffing of the northern fire station. The station is currently staffed with 2 personnel weekdays, and around the clock on weekends. The station is not staffed weeknights. The southern fire station is staffed around the clock, 7 days a week with 2 personnel. RTFD has gradually transitioned from an all volunteer department, to a combination paid department. This is another step forward in that transition. The department has 1 full-time chief, part-time firefighter/paramedic/EMTs, and volunteer fire/EMS personnel. Staffing both stations reduces weeknight response times in the northern part of the township. It allows the department to send both an ambulance and a fire truck to auto accidents. With 4 personnel initially on scene of a structure fire, the department can send a crew inside to begin search or extinguishment operations. Staffing both stations means the department can staff 2 paramedic ambulances, and handle a majority of simultaneous EMS calls.
