Something for your evening relaxation, very insightful As a species we have accomplished wondrous things in the short time we have been in existence. We built pyramids, created and formulated written scripture, gazed up at the stars until we learned to fly and further explored as we made it outside of our planet and took a step to becoming a space faring people. Let’s not forget our harness of the destructive powers of the atom and our enlightenment to the importance of freedom and equality for all. We showed such promise. We opened a new frontier of being. A life of dreams and creations and an environment to let our imaginations run wild. Art imitated life and in a promising turn, life imitated art. The impossible was becoming reality. After a turmoil of darkness we emerged enlightened. We may have not gotten along all the time, but we always strived to move forward. Collectively. And we did. So much growth in such a short time. And then suddenly, when it seemed like nothing was impossible for us, we stopped. Out of nowhere and without reason. Perhaps we learned too fast and failed to retain anything. Or maybe we just got tired of trying and decided to give up. It could also be the systematic loss of our greatest pioneers. Gone too soon were our shepherds, and now without purpose, us sheep lost out way. But why did we not try to find it again? Why did we give up? It has become a lamented tragedy as we slowly sink back into savagery in the guise of civility. In a world where a snotty albeit talented (and some not so much) demographic are celebrated for nonsense while pioneers that are hard at work to push boundaries in art, science and most other genuinely beneficial efforts are all but ignored, where can we go? It is a time of disconnection and seclusion in the guise of technological communion. When was the last time you actually took time to really look around you? Did you notice the little girl who was staring at you with a heartwarming smile, exuding with curiosity about how mind-blowing it was that you existed? Oh maybe if you had looked up for a second you may have noticed that as annoying as their buzzing can be, the bees are quite a sight to behold when they come together and make formations which all have purpose. The artist in you will be inspired. The scientist in you will have an epiphany. Look at the sky above you, why have we turned away from the one thing that fueled our imagination for millennia? We would not have the ability to fly today if Wright Brothers not wondered if man could one day soar in the air. We are stuck in an ever destructive cycle that has seen the decline in creativity and originality. Our entertainment industry is stuck on reboots and remakes of highly imaginative music and film while our artists are relegated recreating vastly superior work or imitating the sorry excuse of life as we know it. And then of course we have the emergence of a generation that refuses to see the world for what is and choose to live in a deceitful daze of unproductiveness which leads to nothing of import but a criminal affinity for being content with the atrocities we are presented with. What’s that thing we have become so accustomed to saying? “It is what it is” . And therein lies the problem. It’s a remarkable dichotomy. In many ways we have moved forward technologically while we managed to regress as a collective consciousness. The light of curiosity has died within us and our zeal for creation and innovation has waned so much it is painful to see what passes as innovative in these times. These times… Only decades ago, these were times we all wanted to be in. We looked forward to this future with wide eyes and amazement to what we could be. We looked forward to today with hope. And yet here we are. Chivalry has died and vanity is the king. We don’t create anymore, we upgrade. We have reached a time when profound thought and articulate speech has become nothing. We quote the words of long dead pacesetters while forgetting that we too have the ability to open our minds and let out words that will live forever. We question nothing. It is a shame really to be human at all. There is seems to be no hope for this race as we race as if by some eagerness towards our self-destruction. We are quick judge one another and quick to assume the role of spectator when our fellow man needs our help. You’re more likely, today, to see a man recording a video of a child being swallowed by a python, so he can share this incredibility with his friends than a man who would try to help the child. We are apathetic to each other and care only for our selfish desires. There is no more community. And friendship today is a farce. But maybe there is hope. Every now and then there comes an invent that reminds us that as few as we may be, there are still people who care deeply about us, as a people, than they do about vain and childish things. Indeed there is a small group of people that seek truth and enlightenment. We are all slaves yet there are a few people who are like Spartacus reborn. In some of us burns the same artistic fire that burned in Mozart. In the minds of a few reside the reincarnation of Archimedes, Aristotle, and Einstein. In the hearts of a few a new wave of music flourishes. But we cannot be silent. This is not about you anymore. If you have a gift to give this world, now is the time to come out. The world needs you more than you know. We cannot sit by while our world goes to vain. The world is a problem, and YOU are the solution. Please, I beg of you, if you are reading this, DO NOT give up. The world may be a bad place but you can change that. Whatever it is that you do. Inspire the world, use your gift. Our world has gone astray, but we can change it. Write that thought you had, write that song, paint your imagination, and research your theories. As crazy as the idea may be, it just might be what the world has been missing. We NEED to go back to a time when the human imagination fueled our growth. We all have a part to play we all are important. Question everything, inspire the world. Eternal sunshine is a lie your spotless mind cannot continue to believe. There IS light, but it begins with the stain of imagination in your mind. Thank you From Prince Owusu Banahene Sarkodie
