Rajasthan partially agrees to reduce training period of IAS officers. JAIPUR: The state government has partially agreed with the Union government proposal to reduce training weeks for Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers. It okayed the proposal to cut number of weeks in training academy at Mussoorie but opposed the recommendation for decreasing it during field training of officers in districts. The Union government on the basis of Kiran Agarwal committee, which proposed to reduce the training duration for IAS officers by at least six-months from present two years, sought views of each state. November 30 was set as the last date after which Centre will start firming up its final stand on the issue. The Rajasthan government in its reply said, The foundation course can be reduced from the present 15 weeks. For IAS professional course, which is of 26 weeks duration, it should be ensured that quality and content is not affected if the duration is decreased. At present, IAS officers attend 103 weeks of training which includes foundation course (15 weeks), IAS professional course, Phase I (26 weeks), academic instruction (16 weeks), winter study tour (eight weeks) and district training (54 weeks) among others. However, state government has put its foot down on recommendation of diminution in field training period from 54 weeks to 33 weeks. The official response to the Centre says, Filed training constitutes an important period for any officer to assimilate with the on-ground situation. They get the gist of government functioning during that time. So, it should be not be touched. Similar views have been given for the phase II training period in which officers undergo eight weeks training after completion of district training. It is a time where officers share their experiences with their batchmates and find the difference between classroom teaching and actual situation, says the state government reply. The response was send by the state after having discussions from trainees of Rajasthan institute of public administration, young officers and seasoned bureaucrats in the cadre.
