Ramadan is the happiest time of the year as it renders the opportunity for the expression of true faith. It is time to become clean Muslims -- to abstain from poor thought, speech and action. Ramadan is a time to strive for physical, spiritual and emotional perfection. It enables us to return to a state of purity from other months in which each of us slay our own passions, Almighty Allah gives us the opportunity to improve ourselves (during Ramadan), It is not just fasting from food and drink. We have to fast from everything that is not right. We have to improve ourselves from the inside out. And we have the opportunity to feel like the poor do. In some parts of the world, people only eat one meal a day. Here, we throw away food. During Ramadan, we can feel their hunger and thirst. Ramadan also includes enhanced charity. Zakat, which means charity, is one of the five pillars of Islam. We help the poor and the needy with a part of our wealth. We also share food and clothes with the poor. However our food quality increases, we eat better food in this month. It is same for everyone whether rich or poor because Allah increases the provision in each and every home. . Many of my non-Muslims friends ask me that how we remain without food and water for 14-18 hrs. We fast as a community and when everyone around you is fasting, you dont feel hungry. Moreover our willpower and determination works for us. Even in empty stomach we never feel agitated, we stay calm. The first three or four days may be little difficult for some (particularly for smokers) but after that for everyone fasting become effortless. No matter how long are the days or how hot or dry is the weather fasting is never a challenging matter. There is a sweetness in the stomachs emptiness. The discomfort is an integral part of fasting and the more of it the better the reward. The reward is forgiveness and Ramadan is the month of forgiveness. Ramadan Mubarak…. Remember, you aren’t doing it because you have to, youre doing it because you want to. Its between you and Allah.
