Random thought: I find the principle of superfoods as commonly - TopicsExpress

Random thought: I find the principle of superfoods as commonly touted to be remarkably fallacious. Sure, when you are looking through the lens of a population that is notorious for mineral, vitamin, and protein deficiencies, it is easy to regard virtually any food that has even the slightest nutritive value as a superfood. The problem I have with the term, is that it is often attributed to foods that really arent that super when we look at them objectively. Simply looking at the vitamins and minerals provided can paint a false picture if you dont take other factors into consideration. It is important to account for not only vitamins and minerals, but calorie density, digestibility, protein quality, and even antinutrients which can completely block the absorption of certain minerals... My point is that I dont regard most fibrous plant foods as superfoods as is becoming increasingly popular. Actual superfoods: Pastured dairy, Pastured ruminant offal (liver, sweetbreads, thyroid gland, collagen, etc..), Shellfish (Particularly oysters), Pastured egg yolks, Organic tree ripened fruit.
