Read my friends response to wether conventional peel-able produce (bananas, for example) are safer to buy conventional. She nailed it! Safer as in for you as the consumer because you dont eat the peel? That just means theyre allowed to put more Dirty Dozen chemicals on them. And you dont touch the peel? And what about the thousands of workers who are poisoned daily due to chemicals used on plantations, and in the chemical plants? And what about the poisoned aquifers and downstream killing of mangroves and coral reefs due to water run off from the plantations, and what about communities which receive the chemical snow of overspray from aerial spraying? What you eat impacts everything back along the commodity chain from production to consumption, everything along its food chain (who eats what), and everything that intersects with that ecosystem. 100% of all chemicals used in the production of your food ends up in human and environmental systems whether you are aware of its impact directly or not. -Kierstin Hatt
