Receiving Sinners This man receives sinners. Luke 15:2 I am so grateful that Jesus is willing even yet to receive sinners - for I am a sinner saved by grace. When we read what Paul wrote about Jesus we realize that Jesus became a man willing to receive sinners when He waked this earth. Jesus had come down from heaven - He was holy, undefiled and separated from sin yet He made Himself a servant and treated people with respect and love. Jesus came to receive sinners. As we study the Word of God we are reminded that Jesus in no other than the One whom angels veil their faces. For Jesus to receive sinners was a mighty stoop of love on the part of God. I have a man in my Bible class who has a heart for the lost - he is willing to receive sinners in the Name of Jesus. But Jesus left heaven to receive those who transgressed against God. Jesus took upon Himself the form of a servant and was willing to receive the worst of sinners - in fact He was willing to bear the sin of the world. This is marvelous for us. Jesus received sinners not in order for them to remain sinners - Jesus received them in order that He may pardon their sins, justify their person, cleanse their hearts by His purifying Word, preserve their souls by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and enable them to serve Him - to show forth His praise and to have communion with Him. Into His hearts love Jesus receives sinners; He takes them from the refuse pile and wears them as jewels in His crown; He snatches them like branches from the fire and preserves them as costly monuments to His mercy. None are so precious in Jesus sight as the sinners for whom He died. When Jesus receives sinners He opens the golden gates of His royal heart and receives the sinner right into Himself. He admits the humble penitent into personal union and makes us a member of His body the Church. There was never such a reception as this. This fact is certain - Jesus is still receiving sinners: my prayer is that sinners willingly receive Him. Let us pray: Lord I do thank You for my brothers and sisters in the Lord. I do ask that You bless each of them with abundant resources in their desire to bring Your Word to a dark and hurting world - let none be passed by. Lord I do thank You for my humanity - keep me accessible to those in need. I give You thanks for the humor and wisdom You put within my heart. May Your Spirit speak through me to a dark and hurting world until Jesus comes - the only words I long to hear are - well done, good and faithful servant. I do all I do for Jesus - our soon coming King. Amen.
