Religion & Faith - The Rise of Zambian Atheists; In a society that is as conservative as Zambia, it is very rare to find someone who claims God does not exist. According to the last census, 87% of people in this country at least proclaim to be Christians, Muslims & Indians make up for 12% with indigenous traditional beliefs rounding up the 1%. However, with increased education & standards of living, there are those who are questioning the very existence of God, or indeed a higher spiritual being - the number is on the rise and some are pushing for recognition. Why do or should you believe in God? they mostly ask & if you ask them why they dont believe in God, they will respond; The same reason why you dismiss Bhudda as a God is the same reason why I cant subscribe to Jesus given its a Christian. Do you think Zambia in its current religious form is ready to meet this growing breed of Free Thinkers as they call themselves? how would you react if your relative told you they dont believe in God?
