Remember that Pittsburgh-Post Gazette article that said this: At the PS4RS town hall debate last month, Mr. Paterno was mentioned 28 times, whereas Penn State students were mentioned 23 times. Trustee candidate and 2010 graduate Gavin Keirans, who did not earn PS4RS endorsement, was responsible for 21 of those mentions. Ms. Pope, Mr. Lord and Mr. Jubelirer mentioned the students once among them. I reviewed the PS4RS Town Hall video (link below) and discovered that the PPG had misrepresented (and not by a little) the Town Hall. Here are some of my observations, which you can either confirm or debate by watching the video: 1) the debate was 94 minutes long. Paterno (or Joe) was mentioned 7 times in the first 74 minutes. Students were mentioned over 20 times 2) PPG included any time Gavin Keirans talked about his time on the student government, including several mentions in reference to his fight against Vicky Triponey. One time he used the term students as praise to PS4RS in their efforts, as they have helped students gain a stronger voice in committees with the Board of Trustees. 3) Bob Jubelirer mentioned the term students twice. Once was explaining the importance of teaching the students proper governance and due process, and once was praising student support for SB1240. However, PPG failed to mention that Jubelirer referred to students as kids 3 other times: in regards to being unfairly punished by the sanctions, for their praiseworthy work at THON, and in regards to getting tuition under control so parents and grandparents could afford to send their kids to college 4) Vincent Tedesco Jr also referred to making the University a better place for our children in the future 5) Rudy Glocker discussed supporting the world campus three times, and also referred to academics, keeping tuition affordable, retaining the investment value of education, and maintain proper levels of state funding 6) at 74 minutes into the Town Hall, moderator Dr. Spencer Niles asked a SPECIFIC question in regards to when will be the proper time to honor Joseph Vincent Paterno. (given Paternos 61 years of Success With Honor and his undeniable impact in making PSU the great University it is now, this seems a relevant question). 20 mentions of Joe or Paterno (including Sue Paterno) were recorded during that specific question. 7) Keirans also mentioned Paternos 1983 speech to the BoT about raising money to make PSU a better school, retain better professors, etc . . . for the students. I have some more notes, but that should suffice in showing, once again, the lazy media cannot seem to get its story straight . . . vimeo/88488646
