Reported attempted abduction proved false – Mudgee Police investigating the alleged attempted abduction of a teenager at Mudgee earlier this week have determined no such incident occurred. The 14-year-old told police he was approached by a man driving a white van while walking along Perry Street on Tuesday 11 June. The boy claimed the man told him to get into the van. Police from Mudgee Local Area Command immediately commenced an investigation and subsequent public warnings were issued. Investigators viewed CCTV from the area concerned which did not support the boy’s version of events. Police spoke with the teenager again, who in turn admitted he fabricated the incident. The boy will be cautioned for the offence of making a false representation resulting in a police investigation. Police continue to urge all reports of suspicious behaviour to be reported and for parents and carers to reinforce the ‘Safe People, Safe Places’ messages to their children.
