Rev. Richard C. Whitcomb God did not design marriage to be a consumer relationship. It’s a covenant! It is a solemn and sacred covenant made in his presence for better or for worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, till death do us part. It’s an unbreakable covenant sealed with a vow and confirmed by the physical union by which God mysteriously makes two people “one flesh”. In a covenant, divorce is not an option. In a covenant, the two parties act as one. In a covenant, change to status doesn’t nullify or give cause to withdraw from the commitment.
