Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives have charged a man in relation to the attempted armed robbery of a Berala hotel in October, during which a shot was fired. About 11pm on Sunday 12 October, a man entered the Woodburn Road hotel through a door on the first floor after climbing up the exterior of the building. The hotel was closed to the general public at the time. Police will allege a shot was fired at a door lock on the lower level, before the man fled the scene the same way he entered. Nobody was injured. Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives have been investigating the incident under Strike Force Colah. Earlier today (Monday 8 December 2014), detectives attended a facility at Wellington where a 25-year-old man was charged with attempted robbery whilst armed with a dangerous weapon and fire firearm in manner likely to injure persons/property. He remains in custody to appear at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday 7 January 2015. Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
