Route 20 bridge to be finished soon in Springfield SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – By the end of this year, the Route 20 bridge that connects Springfield to West Springfield will be finished. The two year project has constructed a new bridge over the freight train railroad tracks. The carrier will begin using double decker freight cars in 2015, which forced the cities to create a higher bridge. The construction has caused a lot of inconvenience for drivers who make the trip from Springfield to West Springfield regularly. West Springfield town engineer Jim Lyons told 22News that crews are paving the roads as the final portion of the construction. The new bridge will include four lanes taking traffic east from West Springfield to Springfield. 22News spoke with residents in both towns who said they’re very happy by to know the bridge is expected to finish by the end of 2014.
