Rumi (1207 – 1273): The Hospice of Insane From your love’s ache and pain– my heart became the hospice of insane. Looking for you I’ve crossed every turf and plain. In the quest for thee, The morning star, the Venus in beauty, My eyes fixed to the skies, you the absentee! To this weighty sorrow, my soul the paving tile– Yet at the end, this fate unkind and hostile– soared my heart to roof of the aisle! Oh, what is happening to my heart today? What was I told? What did they say? I only know in the pursuit of the gem of love, my soul, like an ocean waves for the realms above. The daylight arrives as my heart– tore the veil of night in search of the delight- of your meet and sight. In my heart’s shrine– Of you and your image, many points shine– Yet what a long line connects your heart to mine! Have mercy on me, on me, I implore! I am in blight and my heart is sore, sore! To rekindle with Shams*, Tabriz* is calling me, For how long to the skies, my soul cites its plea?
