SAVING MR BANKS For all of us who have grown up with the films of Walt Disney, the musical fantasy of 1964, ‘Mary Poppins’, will always remain etched in our memories. And now, director John Lee Hancock goes behind the scenes of the making of this classic in ‘Saving Mr Banks’ that pits the crusty and ever-frowning character of the author of this fantasy, P. L. Travers, with the boyish but persistent Hollywood icon Walt Disney. Together and played with fascinating reality by Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks, these two characters make the sparks fly. Here is a film that not only brings makes you cheer and sing but also gets you a lump in the throat when Emma delivers her best moments in the climax sequence as she watches the film in an auditorium. With all the other characters adding to the fun and emotion quotient along the way, this one is a great example of a study of human character.
