SEVERE WEATHER BULLETIN NUMBER FIVE TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING: TROPICAL STORM LUIS (KALMAEGI) Issued at 5:00 a.m., Saturday, 13 September 2014 Tropical Storm LUIS has maintained its strength as it threatens Luzon area. Location of Center: (as of 4:00 a.m.) 500 km East of Virac, Catanduanes Coordinates: 13.7°N, 129.2°E Strength: Maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph Movement: Forecast to move West Northwest at 17 kph. Forecast Positions/Outlook: Sunday morning: 250 km Northeast of Virac, Catanduanes Monday morning: 90 km Southeast of Tuguegarao City Tuesday morning: 360 km Northwest of Laoag City Public Storm Warning Signal PSWS #1 (winds of 30 - 60 kph is expected in atleast 36 hours) Isabela Southern part of Cagayan Northern Aurora Catanduanes Residents in low lying and mountainous areas under signal #1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Estimated rainfall amount is from 7.5 – 20 mm per hour (heavy - Intense) within the 400 km diameter of the Tropical Storm. The combined effect of Tropical Storm Luis and the Southwest Monsoon will bring light to moderate rains and thunderstorms in CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region and Visayas. Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the Eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The public and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC) concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 11AM today.
