SSP Forbes Found Guilty Of Corruption Charges jamaica-gleaner/latest/article.php?id=52778 KINGSTON, Jamaica: Senior Superintendent James Forbes has been found guilty of corruption charges. The verdict was announced by Resident Magistrate Stephanie Haisley-Jackson in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate Court a short while ago. It left many of his colleagues in the packed courtroom stunned. The Magistrate said she did not find favour with SSP Forbes testimony. I reject his defence, she said. She said she found him disingenuous, insincere and evasive and that he was tailoring his case as he went along. Forbes had been on trial since last year for attempting to pervert the course of justice. The charge stem from a meeting he admitted facilitating between businessman Bruce Bicknell and two police sergeants who had arrested Bicknell for allegedly offering one of them a bribe during a April 2012 traffic stop. Prosecutors say an agreement was brokered at the meeting to dispose of the case against Bicknell before he was scheduled to appear in court. The senior police officer, though his attorneys, have denied brokering any agreement and insisted that he was not aware, at the time of the meeting, that the businessman had been arrested and charged.
