Salman Terms Papon As Deserving Man.... DHAKA, Sept 29: Nazmul Hassan Papon, the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) ad-hoc committee, formally unveiled his preliminary panel for the upcoming election comprised with seasoned and young organisers at a local hotel in the city on Sunday. While the likes of Enayet Hossain Siraj, Mahbubul Anam, Ahmed Sajjadul Alam Bobby, Afzalur Rahman Sinha, Jalal Younus, Ahmed Iqbal Hasan, known as veteran organisers in the cricket arena, will enrich his panel, the new and young organisers like Ismail Haider Mallick, Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan, Gazi Golam Mortuza Pappa, Shawkat Aziz Russell, Nazib Ahmed, Nazmul Karim Tinku, Hanif Bhuiyan and Tanjil Chowdhury will bring up diversity in the BCB activities. Papon named those 14 people in his preliminary panel where 12 will contest in BCB election from club based category-2. Those 12 candidates name will be announced after the NSC publishes the final voter list, Papon said while introducing his Sammilito Parishad Panel. The President however did not announce his name in the panel but including him the panel members stood 15. It is believed three members of the panel will come through NSC to be the directors of BCB. The 15 directors out of 26 made it clear that Papon has no barrier to win the contest of president election. There are 42 clubs out of 52 had already backed Papon to be the president of BCB and it is believed some more clubs could be added with them. Citing Papon as the deserving person for the BCB president post, Salman F Rahman, the chairman of Abahani Limited where Papon was nominated as the councillor, said, “His dedication towards the cricket was apparent when he organised Corporate Cricket Tournament in the mid 90’s. It was successfully held under the helm of Papon who showed his shrewd tenacity in the tournament. The effort that he gave ultimately succeeded him as Abahani Cricket Committee chairman after the AHM Mostafa Kamal assumed the post of BCB president.” Salman F Rahman, the mastermind behind the corporate culture in the Bangladesh. hailed Papon as the successful professional also which he thought would help BCB in its advancement. “He started his profession as a simple executive in Beximco after the completion of his graduation. Now he is the Chief Executive of the institution, testament of his shrewd personality and his dedication and skilful attitude towards his profession,” the leading businessman of the country said. “Another quality is he never takes any decision without discussing with other members. So I firmly believe he is the right man to lead the BCB executive committee and under his leadership it would be an expert committee given the names of his panel so far as I heard. There are seasoned and young organisers. “We never imagined in our young age that the final of World Twenty20 will be held in this country but it’s a reality now. It’s a biggest extravaganza and you need an expert executive committee to hold the tournament successfully. I think Papon will lead by example.” Papon however though did not announce his manifesto but made it clear that his committee wants to see Bangladesh’s elevation in the world cricket ranking. Due to the complicacy of the ranking, Bangladesh would have to play the first round of the World Twenty20 with the associate members when the eight first ranked sides will have direct entry to the second round. “To elevate into the ranking is not an easy task you will do overnight. You have to go through a process but definitely we would have to be in the first eight ranked team otherwise we would have to face odd situation in the global tournament,” Papon told the reporters. The BCB boss said that he is still eager to have a dialogue with former BCB president Saber Hossain Chowdhury but before that he would have to understand the agenda of the dialogue. “I’ve to understand first why I’ll sit for a dialogue with him. If he wants to contest in the BCB election, the dialogue will be with a meaning but if he doesn’t contest in the election that will have another meaning. In contrast if he wants to discuss with just BCB constitution that will have other meaning. So at the first hand I’ve to understand on what basis the dialogue will be held.” Papon also alleged a vested quarter is out to play a foul game in BCB election saying, “They are trying to tarnish the country’s cricket image by spreading rumours. We just adopted a fair policy which was required to hold an election. But they brought up politics in the election and tried to destroy it.” theindependentbd/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=187900%3Asalman-terms-papon-as-deserving-man&catid=154%3Asports-cricket&Itemid=138
