Sandoval Lake: it was a shame that the raining season just started, so we did not get much time walking in the jungles to explore wild life. However, we still managed to see giant otters, beautiful butterflies, caimans, monkeys and birds. Sandoval lodge was a lovely place to stay despite the extremely humid and hot jungle weather. The food was purely organic and tasted a amazing. It was worth mentioning Brazilian nuts. Our guide told me when there is no tourists in raining season from December to March, he has to find another job which is to harvest the Brazilian nuts. The trees ca grow up to 50m high but theres no need to climb the tree as the nuts will fall. Hence it is extremely dangerous picking up the nuts as theres no hamlet provided. On top of that, there might be ants or scorpions on the shell that will sting. The knife to crack the shell may get slippery. All these factors makes harvesting extremely risky given it is wet and no gloves are provided. It takes them 2 - 3 hours to crack 200-300 nuts to fill up the big bag. And then they have to carry the 100kg bag walking for 2 hours to the location required. How much they get paid? 18 soles ($7 bucks). There will be other workers to crack the inside shell. They have to make sure the nut is a whole thing so they can be paid 1 sole (40 cents) per kilogram. Tough life....
