Saturday 7th November, 1914 Musketry preliminaries for Strencil. Naval action in gale off Chilean coast. Dresden, Leipzig, Scharnhorst, Gneisenau, and others vs Good Hope, Monmouth, Glasgow. Good Hope sank, Monmouth on fire (5 – 3) Glasgow slightly damaged. Drove to St John’s College rugger field and played them. Draw 8pts – 8pts. One of their goals however was not a goal. Not a bad game though scrambly. Our team Green (Heroits), Watt (Watsonians A), Quartermaster Sergeant Morgan (greys), Squadron Sergeant Major Elliot (Greys), Johnson (Brunstane and XHerberts), Lieutenant Parr (Ireland and Dublin Wanderers), Sandy, Jimmy, Myself, Barthrone (Kircaldy), Glen (Kircaldy), Jimmieson (Brunstane), Paterson ( Dundee High School). Refree was very much on their side. One of us was warned. Needless to add he was the RHS man. Back to barracks and had tea there. Out with Fenton at night. Quite a good time in Coney Street etc. Back about 10:10. Pirnily very tight, sat at fire with him, till the others staggered him off to bed.
