Se tasi lenei o tusi mai se alii papalagi mai Ireland na tafao mai I Samoa. O le a sou manatu faaalia?#Jazz Letter: Hello Samoa. Before I came to your country, I did a lot of research on your culture and your people. The impressions I came with was that if there are angels walking on earth, they will have to be Samoans. I arrived and I went straight to Savaii and immediately I thought I might be in heaven. After a few days in Savaii, it was time to come to Upolu. My first impression of Upolu changed that as I was charged nearly $200 for a taxi from the wharf to the town. I didnt complain but I thought it was excessive. I read so much about the Vailima beer and some nightspots in the city so I went to check them out. The people were friendly at the beginning but towards the end they became very rowdy and nasty. I was disappointed and left where again I was overcharged by the taxi driver who took me to my hotel thinking that I was just a drunk palagi. Now I am back in my country, I kind of miss Samoa but not the taxi drivers. I think your tourism people should really do something to stop taxi drivers from overcharging tourists. I will definitely return to Samoa and go straight to Savaii but I promise not to take the taxis again. I will hire a vehicle. I still think Samoa is a wonderful place, maybe a tad over-expensive but still worth the long flight from freezing Ireland. Credit: Samoa Observer
