Season’s Greetings from your FRCC Officers, Directors and Curator, The Rogerson Clematis Collection is recognized and celebrated throughout the country and the world. Visitors to our garden are uniformly enthusiastic about their experiences, and rightfully so. We have developed a wonderful home for this amazing collection. So, once again, we want to thank you for your generous support in the past year, recount some of our accomplishments and tell you about our plans for next year. Oh, and ask for your help. Just a Few Accomplishments and Thanks FRCC events continue to gain in popularity. We had great response to Inviting Vines, our major fund raiser, along with many events at the farm and in other venues. These events are critical to raising awareness of the garden and the collection. This year, FRCC increased the number of taxa held in the collection from 708 in January 2013 to 733 by late November. That’s 25 new species and cultivars. We are able to make these increases thanks to gifts of seeds or plants, and through donations to our acquisitions budget. Since we started planting in the summer of 2006, we now have 76% of the clematis moved out of containers and into the ground, with hopes of getting many more in the ground next year (see below). Our Archives Committee continues to organize and maintain the historical documents of FRCC, including reviewing and cataloging all of Brewster Rogerson’s papers related to the collection, which is rewarding work and a great resource. We continue to refine and improve the gardens and couldn’t do it without our Friday Regulars – the volunteers who keep the gardens looking good. The garden is perhaps the most visible manifestation of who we are and what we do, so it is critical to our mission to have it looking good all the time. And we are indebted the City of Lake Oswego for their ongoing support. They provide assistance in many ways, from grading and gravel to printing and posting on the City’s website. Next Year We anticipate developing new display gardens east of the Luscher Farm driveway. Our ability to do this depends on generous donations to time and money, but it is vital that we create areas so we can get plants out of their pots and into the ground. Some of the collection plants that came to us in the original gift from Brewster Rogerson are STILL waiting for their roots to touch the earth. How You Can Help We have many ways for you to be involved, either as a volunteer on a one-time or on-going basis, or by making a financial contribution.
