Select your friends with care and deliberation. Do not call a stranger your friend after a short acquaintance, and do not permit others to call you theirs under like circumstances. Friendship should be the result of discriminating choice, not of accident. Everybody is judged by his intimates. Men may associate with you because you are learned, because they like your company, or for more shallow reasons have been cited, a friend should be still be your friend for no other reason than that you are you. True friendship multiplies the good in life and divides its evils. Strive to have friends, for life without friends is like life on a desert island. A friend should be truthful, but charitably so. He should advise, stimulate, or console, according to ones needs. A friend is one who praises you to others and corrects you in privacy; who sees you excel him without envy; who advises you well,but does not force his advice on you; who gives as much as he takes, and takes more than he gives. To find one real friend in a lifetime is good fortune; to keep him,a blessing. Accept those around you as they are, with all their faults ;If you cannot remedy their defects, endure them. View them as you do physical blemishes; in the course of time you will get used to them, Friendship should be in singular, IT CAN BE NO MORE PLURAL THAN LOVE. :)
