She Cannot Stay (Ode to Maya) She would tell us stories, with candor and majesty Words illuminating the struggle of man beaten, a woman downtrodden, a people forlorn, in a way that could touch the very souls of mankind. Her pen could be a pillow or a sword telling us things both things we wanted to hear, and some we wanted to ignore.. Mixing poetry, Stories and prose in a way that pryed open closed eyes The reason the caged bird sings, and that no matter what, we rise! Mountains do not know the heights she took us to, and valleys are only a divot compared to the depths she brought us from Melding mind and mentality, mixing dreams and reality to elevate consciousness with calmness, with the strength and compassion of a mothers voice She touched me...making me believe, I could be great. In the same way she touched, Diplomats, Presidents, Kings and Queens This proud humble strong black woman form St. Louis Missouri of West African descent…she touched a world. And though I never had the pleasure of meeting her face to face, I will remember her As the strength of a mother, the strength of a grandmother and the strength of a people… A beacon placed, like the Sun to give us light on a dark, dreary, rainy day And though we dont want her to leave, God needed this Angel, We know, she cannot stay.
