Sierra Rutile, India Consul and Others Donate to Fight Ebola By State House Communications Unit As the fight against the spreading Ebola virus disease continues to receive favorable response from both private and public sector institutions, Sierra Rutile and three others had on Thursday 20th November made donations at State House to help contain the outbreak. President Ernest Bai Koroma expressed profound gratitude to all Sierra Leoneans and well wishers who had contributed toward the fight against the disease. Whilst commending contributors for their thoughtfulness, the president acknowledged the fact that Ebola has posed serious challenges to both the government and the people of Sierra Leone because the disease was unknown in this part of the world. He said he was heartened by the kind of responses shown by Sierra Leoneans and noted that the country was now better placed in terms of structures and resources to speedily contain the virus. With these structures, President Koroma underscored the significance of effective coordination in combating the disease, and affirmed that government is also committed to providing psychosocial support to Ebola victims particularly to children that had been orphaned by the outbreak. He also assured that measures have been put in place to address stigmatization and ensure that Ebola survivors are integrated to their various communities. In line with its cooperate social responsibility, Sierra Rutile made an additional contribution of One Billion Leones (Le 1bn) to support governments handling of the increasing number of children that had been orphaned by the epidemic. It could be recalled that Sierra Rutile had made an earlier contribution of One Billion Leones to complement governments efforts in combating the disease. Speaking on behalf of the company Mr. Alex Kamara said that the additional contribution will help to contain the virus and as well help the unfortunate orphans affected by the dreadful disease. The Deputy Consul General of India in Sierra Leone Mr. Harish Agnani presented a delivery note of medical supplies and equipment worth Fifty Thousand United States Dollars ($50,000) to be delivered to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation. He commended the leadership of President Koroma in the fight to contain the virus and expressed hope that the country will get to normalcy soon. Mercury international and Martin Michaels and family donated One Hundred Million Leones and Fifty Million Leones respectively to boost the fight against Ebola. The latter will also be making a monthly donation of Twenty Million Leones to an orphanage home for a period of one year. The supposed beneficiary (orphanage Home) of the said monthly donation will be decided on shortly. The African Muslim Agency also presented a cheque of Forty Six Thousand, Seven Hundred and Eighty Six, Forty-Four cents United States Dollars ($46,786,44) to complement government’s efforts in containing the outbreak.
