So 2 days left and Ive fallen behind enough that Id have to throw down 7,000 words on the 30th and Im showing all of the signs that my ADHD is not going to let me sit in front of the computer and work on it for that long, so Im going to throw up my white flag for NaNo. However, Im not going to take this as a defeat. How could I? I just wrote over 43,000 words in a month. Let my reiterate: 43,000 words in a MONTH. Thats still over 1,000 words per day. For a MONTH. That is a victory, even if it didnt hit my goal. I know the mistakes Ive made. I didnt plan, I had no idea where the book was going until I was 30,000 words in. I tried to juggle too many characters trying to fit everything in, (9 protagonists and I start to figure out why Tolkien started to separate/kill him) and I didnt figure out their appearances and personalities until too late. I changed the time period dramatically and didnt bother to look up what technology they might have an might not (printing press? electricity? guns? phones? cars????). Most of all, I finished too fast. I finished before I even got to 40,000 words, and that is what ultimately put the last nail in my coffin. I saw it coming from a mile away, but I couldnt prevent it. After that, going back and adding things became far too tedious. So thats it. I learned a lot this month, so Im never going to say it was a waste of my efforts.
