So Hannah and Sunn Sett have both tagged me for 15 most - TopicsExpress

So Hannah and Sunn Sett have both tagged me for 15 most influential/important albums, so I figure I ought to do something about it. These are in no particular order. Im also going to relate this music to the people who gifted me my musical tastes, and challenge them to do the same. Ive also had a couple of beers tonight. Not exactly sure how that will affect this list. Lets find out, shall we? 1. Sheik Yerbouti- Frank Zappa. First Zappa album to really grab me, to which I owe a lot of my current musical taste to this album. Props to Jeff for introducing me. 2. American Idiot- Green Day. I mentioned it last week when this album turned 10, but Im fairly certain I would not be a musician today if it werent for this album. Props to Rohan and Scott for this one. 3. California- Mr. Bungle. This album is so weird and is so dear to my heart. I have the weirdest emotional connection. Props to Mitchell for performing Sweet Chairty at UNCA once and making me pick it up. 4. Frizzle Fry- Primus. Yall know Primus is super important to me, and this album rules a lot of a lot. Props to Meredith for getting me into them. 5. Automatic for the People- REM. So much emotional investment in this album. Jenna can readily tell you that Nightswimming makes me cry. 6. Remain in Light- Talking Heads. My party jam for the second half of college. Lot of awesome memories happened to the accompaniment of this album. Never fails to make me think of Brill and Rusty. 7. Antics- Interpol. Always been super invested in this album, and it always reminds me of Abby (Interpolantics). 8. Boxer- The National. This album coming into my life coincided with getting my wisdom teeth out. Im not sure how much that had to do with it, but it always warms my heart. And also makes me think of Noor. 9. The Bends- Radiohead. This album got me through some angsty years and has always been able to pump me up from a bad mood. Amanda, of course, gets some cred. 10. In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3- Coheed & Cambria. I never totally realized how big a part of my life this album was until this past weekend when I saw Coheed play the full album at Myrtle Beach. It reminded me how well I knew these songs and how much investment I had in this music. Thanks for a great weekend, Edwin, Bekka, Amanda and Jimmy. 11. Comfort Eagle- Cake. I remember Amy played me a song off of this album years and years ago, and I thought it ruled. Then we ended up seeing this band with a few other people on this list back in 2010 and we had a wonderful time. I can also recall a lot of fond times bonding with Juan and Hannah over this album. I miss yall a lot. 12. Cope- Manchester Orchestra. The newest album on this list, recommended to me by Nick. This album helped me get through a kinda rough summer, as did my recent involvement with Running on E. Which Nick is in, if you didnt know. Also got me to play on the same stage as Manchester Orchestra within a few weeks of eachother. 13. Absolution- Muse. Muse is a hugely important band to me, and I dont think Ive seen Amanda in over a year. Lets change that. 14. The Wall- Pink Floyd. I remember picking this album up for the first time because of an offhand remark that Tom made about it in 2006. I think that a lot of the way that I play guitar today stems from this album. Also, Ill never forget geeking out about Pink Floyd with Nick many years ago. 15. Elephant- The White Stripes. Another big time game-changing guitar album. This album absolutely mesmerized me when I first heard it, and I rock it in the car to this day. Even though it was already cemented into my life before I even met these people, I tend to think of Linz and Jordan whenever I hear it. Ill post a few honorable mentions as well, but heres 15 super important albums in the life of John Hansen.
