So I apologize in advance for the lengthy post but this is important, ESP for the newbies like myself. Today was a day from the 1st level of Hell. I was starting to feel like RVing was not for me. Our truck wouldnt start - we were beyond the edge of nowhere in a little reservoir lake with no cell service and well, thats not the story. We finally got going and when we arrived at our next stop we had no battery power. Shore power wouldnt work and we were pretty confused because the fuse on the battery was fried and the compartment hot. HOT and I have a burn to show for touching a ground that should not have been hot. I went thru every fuse troubleshooting why we still had power with the battery disabled and the shore power cut. The only thing that had power was the power cord plugged into the truck. So this picture is what I found when I went to unplug it and it was an OMG moment when I realized if we had kept going we would have caught fire. The power cord was long and drug on the ground and so I taped it over wirrh electrical a few days ago. I wondered if we needed to tape inside it and now the Answer was NO. Buy a new one. So over the 3 hours of our short drive time this was shorting out enough to melt the other wires. We still had trailer brakes and lights thank God. So the moral of this story is ask. Im too new to have that any answers and today could have ended the whole thing. Thank you God for the protection
