So frustrated. It is the end of open enrollment time for benefits where I work. Bens open enrollment is in April every year, with benefits starting in July. They are now DOUBLING the spousal surcharge to $138 every 2 weeks. He asked the person at the school/church that deals with the benefits if he can change his since it is open enrollment time for me (which is considered a life-change event at my place of employment). It is NOT considered on there. So now, because we didnt know this surcharge was doubling, and because we cant change his, we are screwed. Also, it would be so much cheaper for us to put the kids on his insurance ($72 per month for family vs my $360 per month family rate), but since the children are eligible for my insurance, the archdiocese wont cover them. To rub salt into the wound, they really dont even know how much we have saved the diocese over the past 10 years. Their cost of insurance, for a single person right now, is over $7,000 per year AFTER employee contribution. This obviously would have gone up per year over the past ten years, so we calculated started at $3,000 for the first two years, then $4,000 for two years, etc. By covering him on my insurance, weve saved them AT LEAST $50,000. So the pay is crap, they wont help us in this way, and Ben even said last night that he went into the wrong profession. Uhhhhh....YEP. Been saying that for years. Im feeling a lot less bad that when they switched to a new program for giving to the church, I kind of forgot to sign up to give our tithe there. Well, guess where that money is going now?! Funding insurance.
