Something I shared with an Ebola interest group: Hi, if the owner(s) of this site allows, I plan to share my bias with you as an M.D., M.P.H. Retired USAF type, when there is something significant to share. 1-selective flight restrictions and selective quarentines seem reasonable, in my professional opinion. But only the politically inclined run governmental agencies. And the truth is, nobody has died in the USA, from Ebola, THUS far...it might change. This fight needs international cooperation...But lets not overthink this. 2-Ebola will continue to pop up, given the modern travel options. 3-something not (even) many medical types know...the rapidity of the RISE and the rapid stabilization of the number of CONTACTS being monitored during today means there are many many EIS officers available to the case in Dallas. So it is at worst a mixed blessing. 4-unless you live in an area with CONFIRMED Ebola, there is no need to do anything more than switching to fist bumps and washing hands more. You and I need to only get an update once a day or so. 5-if you live in an area like Dallas, I would advise limiting physical contact with unfamiliar people! And if things should go to worst case scenario, full length clothing and hat plus scarf over nose and mouth should suffice, then limit exposure to public places...NOTE: this would be like zombie movies as applied to Ebola. You will be fine unless this Ebola thing becomes a cause for hysteria and civil unrest. Addendum: if someone approved to move an Ebola case to Atlanta...it is probably because we need to learn the weakness of this threat by studying it. We need to know what kills it, HOW it disrupts the formidable defense system of mammals. So Atlanta makes sense, it is one of the places where an appropriate level of biocontainment for studying a level IV threat, under safe, and controlled environment. Take calm and turn away from the news channels for a bit.
