Sometimes I miss my early days here on Facebook, Back then, at the risk of romanticising the past, I could have intelligent exchanges with diverse peeps!! I remember with fondness the long - and sometimes uber-heated - exchanges I had with peeps like Megos Ntshikelelo Kuse and the Lerato Nkosi, Theo Cashmere to mention but a few!! Mostly issue-based, those exchanges, and, whatever the outcome, they left you better than you were, with horizon broadened!! It wasnt just the exchanges!! There were other stuff besides!! You knew, on logging to Facebook, that at least there were a number of extremely interesting stuff you would learn at every session - in the area of Religion, of history, of the law, of philosophy, of literature, of politics, et cetera!! But now, logging on to Facebook is no longer as rewarding for me!! Dont get me wrong: I still have friends who are like the ones I mentioned above!! But it appears these people are becoming less active on Facebook by the day!! And, more often than not, engaging in simple intellectual exchanges these days with someone here on Facebook leaves me with the feeling of being some freak of nature or something!! Demolishing arguments these days does not even cost any effort, And the defeated, with nothing else to offer, often dip into their inner weakminded-selves to unleash a flow of gutter-language!! I have found myself saddled with a large number of pseudo-intellectuals who actually give you the hallucinatory feeling of being back in your secondary school literature class, with your poorly-read teasher whom you knew you were more intelligent than, who knew that too, but who now wanted you to sit back and accept anything from their lips, and dare not question such, lest you receive the attention of their talk true!! mxm Yes, one argument I usually make in favour of my continued active participation in Facebook is that of debating improvement!! There is no doubt Facebook has helped me improve my writtings and intelligence, and even find a voice of sorts - although it sounds like a frogs - but is it still doing that?? Not really!! It had ceased doing that a long time ago.... Intellectual is not a facebook thing anymore, believe you me!! With that said, I am also experiencing a dumbing down of sorts regarding my intellect!! In plain-speak, I am not getting smarter but dumber, and age has nothing to do with it!! What am I saying in such a ridiculous, round-about manner?? I need to die down a bit and relate to whatever nonsense i come across!! Facebook is no longer what it used to be for me!! I love my friends here, everyone of them, but it is only an overwhelmed minority who are able and willing to offer me the stimuli and the challenges I seek here!! The likes of Ketsi, Oatile, Mpi, Mosela, Jagaurpaw, Tebogo Lesie etc!! still have it in them!! In plain-speak, I need to cut down on displaying my sagacity, It is turning me into Numpty in the eyes of people who uses nappies for brains, ones whose intelligence quotient does not surpass that of an average rock!! Of course, Facebook is platform non pareil for catching up on news and other stuff!! It is also a wonderful soap-box!! But as a serious platform for debates and other intellectual exchanges, it is really not as great as it used to be!! I do not absolve myself of responsibility in the matter of helping to make things thus, But I only seek to save what is left of my intellect - yes sir, I am a selfish, conceited soul...Judge if you wanna, your own headache after everything!! P.S.: Lest anyone here doth feel offended - a hallmark of facebooking these days is that people get offended even when they shouldnt or have no reason to - let me reiterate that this has nothing to do with anyone here!! This is not an insult hurled at the intellectual and other abilities of anybody here and if you have just read the masturbation above, that means you get what im saying....One love!!
