Kwanzaa Day 3: Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility) to build and maintain our community together and make our brothers and sisters problems our problems, and to solve them together. Scriptures for reflection: Nehemiah 2:17-18 (NRSV) 1 Corinthians 12:21-25 (NRSV) If the first principle dealt with the concept of unity, then the third one expands the conversation to include work and responsibility, not as individuals but as a collective. Give the state of our communities, we should take this moment to realize that like the people of Israel during Nehemiahs time we must not only fight off external threats, we must also work internally to increase our strength. In the context, #Blacklivesmatter whether its at the hands of killer cops or misguided and angry youth. This also reminds us not to get so caught up in our roles and statues; this is bore out in the scripture from 1 Corinthians. All parts of the body make up the whole and when working together, so much more is achieved. No part is greater than the whole and it is all of our responsibility to fight the good fight in whatever venue or role we can.
