Spring is finally here! And if youre into any spring cleaning this weekend, check out these tips on Carpet Deodorizing Treatments. If you have pets, keeping that carpet smell down can be challenging. Here’s how to deal with it. Before vacuuming every week, sprinkle this blend generously on the carpet: Ingredients Metric / Imperial Baking Soda 500 g/ 2c Essential Oil(s)* 10 ml/ 2t Put the Baking Soda into a large bowl, and drizzle in the Essential Oil(s). With clean hands, pinch in the oil and rub it into the Baking Soda. When all the pearls of Essential Oil have been dispersed, put into a container. To use, just sprinkle on the carpet before vacuuming; 30 minutes should do the trick, but if you do it before going out in the morning, the house should be pleasantly fresh when you begin your chores. Tips: Put a few drops of the EO you have chosen onto a cotton ball, and drop into the canister of your vacuum. This will help dispel the odours that collect there. If you have kids, think about using the citrus Essential Oils. They are very good at clearing out smoke and cooking odours. Blended with Anise Seed, the scent is sweet and refreshing (and sniffing Sweet Orange stops the appetite of a growling tummy for a while). Lavender with Rosemary, and Eucalyptus with Peppermint Essential Oil help with the odour of dander. Grapefruit and vinegar both have sharp scents that help dispel the ammonia smell in urine, so use Grapefruit in the carpet deodorizer, and make a spray for the litter box or puppy accidents with a vinegar base and Grapefruit Essential Oil (and use them for spot-washing the carpets, surrounding walls, and litter box, too). Put a few drops of the Grapefruit in the solution of your carpet steamer. For carpets in musty basements, blend complementary oils (such as Sweet Orange; Pine and Vanilla; or Lavender and Vanilla) with Patchouli. The Patchouli ‘rhymes’ with musty smells, but the others will help to lift that odour to something a bit more pleasant. Do you have a cool tip on using our oils? If so, leave a comment and let us know how you use it.
