Statement of Save the Scenic Santa Ritas President Gayle Hartmann on the passing of Steve Pawlowski Today, we learned of the untimely and tragic death of Steve Pawlowski as he waited to testify yesterday on behalf of the Sierra Club at a U.S. House of Representatives field hearing in Phoenix. Despite his soft-spoken demeanor and good humor, Steve was a fierce warrior for the environment. Steve’s legacy of working to conserve our natural resources, particularly his passion of protecting the fragile rivers, streams, springs and washes of the Sonoran Desert that flourish with life in the harshest conditions, will live on and will benefit future generations of Arizonans Steve was a deeply valued colleague of SSSR. His quick wit, wisdom and guidance will certainly be missed. SSSR extends its deepest condolences to Steve’s family, friends and his colleagues.
