Statement to address the Commission at The Duke Energy Rate Hike Hearing: I have a friend who is a small business owner here in Charlotte. He has on several occasions mentioned to me how unfair he believes these proposed rate hikes will be being that he has to worry about his residence as well as keeping the lights on at his store and fears he we will be hit with a double whammy … Then I think of the other ways customers will be affected…The city of Charlotte has a utility bill my fear is that if it increases so will taxes residents have to pay which will be another burden on hard working citizens already stretched thin by current bills and who more than likely will not be receiving pay increases or additional support to help sooth potential costs… In WSOC’s coverage of this story Lisa Parrish was quoted as saying “ This is about the Power behind the light switch” and she is spot on with her statements this is about the Power and the concerns are the source of this Power and “cleaner coal” as Mrs. Parrish put it just does not exist… We are here because we are tired of being mislead by this company and would like them to be more “environmentally friendly” by utilizing the viable options we see in Solar and Wind. If Duke Energy cares about their customers they would look at the importance of Life verses Profits…
