Steve Healion Joe Hockey is reported as saying that everybody, including me, must help with the heavy lifting, or some such ridiculous expression. He has said there will be a pay freeze for top public servants and parliamentarians. Joe, this is nonsense, and it shows that you are treating the Australian people as a bunch of mugs. A pay freeze for public servants and parliamentarians will save only odd pay rises for as long as you have the freeze. This could amount to a maximum of just a few million dollars at best. If you wish to help reduce the budget deficit, you should be announcing policies that will help the economy to grow, not reduce its growth, that will increase productivity not reduce it, that will increase revenue, not increase spending, that will stimulate the economy, not erect barriers to growth, that will build business and consumer confidence, not destroy it. In twelve months time, when unemployment is above 7%, when the economy will probably be in recession, you will be held responsible. Keep that in mind, as there will be many people who will then say, I told you so
