Steven Kariuki K1 of ODM mastered the tactics used to steal his 2013 victory in Mathare and sealed all the loopholes. He pulled together a formidable technical team and grassroots machine. K1 approached the political game of this campaign as an art, weaving together appropriate messages from the local level and tapping masterfully into the Nairobi and national political narratives. K1 and his team executed the mechanics of election day in a scientific manner, no details were left to chance. We were vigilant, agents everywhere alert to any chicanery by the competition. Any negligence on our part yesterday and electoral theft would have happened again. Kudos K1. Hope CORD learns to play offence and defence, mobilize the vote, protect the votes, celebrate the victory. Even President Uhuru Kenyatta came to campaign against K1, realised Mathare was not for jokers, and quickly left after dropping his goodies at a church. It was a delicious mini-referendum indeed. Sensing the impending painful TNA loss, a certain flamboyant senator and a dramatic County MP conveniently left the country and were conspicously unavailable yesterday to do their usual scandals. Even the venom-spitting notoriously unelected MP could not stand the reality and left the tallying center by 7pm. Police fired teargas and bullets, at Ndururuno Polling stations the OCPD locked out some ODM agents, but we never were intimidated. Some of their supporters brandished pistols, hurled insults, and pelted our vehicles with rocks. Despite the hate and hooliganism, team K1 carried the ODM flag to victory. ODM, WIPER, FORD-K tujipange tushinde 2017. Mathare must be a starting point for more victories to come.
