Summary of September 29, 2014 Partridge Island Citizens Committee public meetings. Presentation by Dan Glen Landscape Architect of existing plans for Partridge Island development. Essentially the plan is for a Harbour Passage type development of accessible walking trails with minimal impact on Island ecology and historical legacy. 0101.nccdn.net/1_5/24c/0d3/13b/partridge_island_concept.jpg 0101.nccdn.net/1_5/073/0d8/2b3/partridge_island_landing_render.jpg 0101.nccdn.net/1_5/057/188/049/partridge_island_viewport_render.jpg Access to island still to be determined but consensus was building for boat access to new floating dock on island. Costs are projected to be ten times less in both capital and maintenance compared to upgrading the existing breakwater. Boat access already available by private tour operators from waterfront docks at Market Slip and soon to be built Homeport Slip at Princess Street. Next step is for Citizens Committee to complete report and get to all three levels of Government. Time line very tight for Federal Budget process and vision is for 2015 Budget approval with wharf construction in 2015, trail construction in 2016 and completion by July 1, 2017 thereby qualifying for 150th anniversary of Confederation funding. Ownership of Island yet to be finalized, but the two key options are for Parks Canada or divestiture of Island by Fisheries and Oceans (present owner) to not for profit community based group. A more detailed analysis is available in the previous post. Alan Good
