Syria Crisis: Safeguarding America By indiscreetly popping of with crossing the redline “or elses,” the President has placed himself and this country in a precarious position; and all subsequent efforts since then have been geared toward shifting accountability from himself. Consequently, he chose to turn the matter over to Congress and is calling upon them to bear the responsibility of subverting the UN, as well as nullifying the general will of a war weary nation. America is in a no win situation regarding Syria by trying to come up with a yes or no answer on the attack. In my opinion the best way to deal with the issue is for Congress to vote against any response at this time and tell the President to follow the UN procedure. Inasmuch as we have subscribed to the UN charter, this is an area where we should not undermine their approach. Actually Vladimir Putin of Russia is correct. It is a mistake for America to make a unilateral decision to attack Syria. The UN is currently investigating the gas atrocities to determine who actually ordered the offense. We should allow them to finish the job for which they were designed. Accepting the UN course of action in this case provides a multilateral decision and safeguards American integrity. This is what the President should have done in the first place. Should Congress foolishly give him the authority to strike, it’s still not too late for the President to remand the issue to the UN where it belonged in the first place. It’s just that he will have to eat a little crow for his escalating ineptitude, but the people may grant him some respect for that decision.
