TAS ** SEVERE WEATHER WARNING ** Severe Weather Warning IDT28100 Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds for people in the King Island, Furneaux Islands, North West Coast, Central North, North East, Western, Central Plateau, Midlands, East Coast, Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts Issued at 4:48 pm EST on Tuesday 13 August 2013. Weather Situation An area of low pressure will pass to the south of Tasmania overnight, with an associated cold front to cross the state from the west this evening and overnight. Damaging winds around 50 to 60 km/h with peak gusts of 100 to 110 km/h are forecast for the whole state this evening and gusts of 120km/h are possible about the west coast in thunderstorms. Damaging winds are expected to gradually contract to the far northeast early on Wednesday. Drivers are advised that gusty winds will make driving conditions dangerous on many roads around Tasmania. Scotts Peak had a gust of 141km/h at 4.34pm. About other elevated and exposed areas in western and southern Tasmania, gusts of 110 to 120km/h have been recorded this afternoon. A gust of 96km/h was recorded at 2pm in Hobart.
