TBT - Mule deer edition! As the story goes, a typical mule deer with not-so-typical antlers was spotted in July 1940 by Mrs. D. D. Brownell in Medicine Lake, Siskiyou County, California. The deer’s antlers’ were so deformed and enormous that they kept the deer from holding its head up. As a result, the California Division of Fish and Game gave Mr. Beebe of the United Forest Service permission to kill the animal as a humane measure. The antlers and the attached frontlet, now housed in the MVZ collections, were recorded to be a whopping 17 pounds! mvz.berkeley.edu/Newsletter/newsletter_files/201412/MuleDeer.php
