TGPC Photo contest WINNER FOR TRISKELION : THIS IS WHO WE WERE Circa 1980s, the country was in turmoil, reeling from the grip of Martial Law and restricted freedom. A shot rang out on the Tarmac of the Manila International Airport, Ninoy fell and all of a sudden the country was changed. We were changed, the countrys destiny was changed, and Tau Gamma Phi, The Triskelions grand fraternity was there at the forefront of that change. I choose this entry for the symbolism it brings. Thirty years after this Photo, we are bombarded with negative publicity, and probably because of the misguided younger brothers and sisters who seem to espouse the very things our Fraternity is against. This photograph shows that we stand for freedom, we stand for justice, we stand for unity. Perhaps the younger generation needs to be reminded what it was like back then....no one dared to stand against the dictatorship, the Philippine Constabulary could just arrest you and you will never be heard from again - no arrest warrants was needed, the writ of Habeas Corpus was suspended, our economy was in shambles, and the Triskelions you see in the Photograph-their lives were in grave danger simply by being there. But our brothers and sisters did more than just be there...they were shouting, they had their fists held up high, they were singing Bayan Ko!, they were ready to lay down their lives if needed be for a country that was bleeding to death. This is who we were. A proud brotherhood that heeds the call of a country in dire need of heroes. Then as now, the banner rings true. GISING NA, TANGHALI NA! Triskelions, the time is now to wake up and take it upon our individual and collective selves to uplift our Fraternity, to cleanse our image, to return to the fundamentals of a brotherhood bounded by the ideals of the Tenets - Man is Brother unto Man.
