THANKSGIVING HOME SAFETY The Centennial Fire District wishes you, your family and friends a safe and joy filled Thanksgiving holiday. As most home fires take place in the kitchen, and the weeks and days leading up to Thanksgiving is often a busy time in the kitchen, the Centennial Fire District recommends the following cooking safety tips: KITCHEN SAFETY: Never leave the stove/oven unattended. Most kitchen fires start with unattended cooking; if the stovetop is in use, stay in the kitchen. Turn heat off oven when you leave the kitchen, even for a short period of time. Always keep combustibles away from heat sources, keep kitchen counters closest to the stovetop clear of things that can catch fire. IF THERE IS A KITCHEN FIRE: Always keep a right-sized pan lid near the stove to cover any small grease fires. If there is such a fire, carefully slide the cover over the pan and turn the heat off. Do not remove the lid for at least 30 minutes. Never use water to try to extinguish a grease fire. If there is a fire in the oven, immediately turn the heat off and do not open the oven door. For any uncontrolled kitchen fires, leave the house immediately and call 9-1-1. TURKEY FRYERS: Centennial Fire District does not recommend use of turkey fryers. The large amount of heated grease and propensity for spills and boil over, makes turkey fryers a potentially unsafe way of preparing Thanksgiving dinner. If you use a turkey fryer, please follow the following tips: Always cook on level, non-combustible surface at least 25 feet from house. Only place a fully thawed turkey in fryer. Do not leave fryer unattended. Never put water on grease fire. Call 9-1-1 in event of fire. Have a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends! https://youtube/watch?v=hQYTMFCLy5E
