Today is my grandpas 86th birthday. He and my grandma still live together in the house that I went to visit, and make up basement dances and countless memories in since I was a baby. He is the father of 7 children and the grandfather of 28 grandchildren, of which I am the proud Numero Uno (as they lovingly refer to me) and now the great grandfather of two more (my nephew Sage being one of them). Twenty years ago, he and a partner and my father began writing a paper called the Vortex Model of the Atom which disproves the theory of structure of the atom that we were all taught in chemistry and science classes our whole lives. As a child I watched in complete confounded awe as my father created 3D models and my grandpa would talk endlessly on a subject that sounded like another language to me. That paper is now in the hands of scientists and scholars all over the world and will someday, hopefully, change all of the books on the subject. And yesterday, finally, my father and he filmed a talk discussing my grandfathers greatest lifes work. My grandfather is a scientist, a scholar, and the smartest man Ive ever known. He always remembers when I last came to visit and he always asks me about my music and my travels and my business. As he blew out his candles, he said there are some nights that I think may be my last, but I think I will stick around for this one. I have never seen him cry, but we all did a little bit then. I love him so so much and am grateful to have such a wonderful family surrounding me reminding me of what is important and magical and possible in the world. Happy birthday, Ignatius!
