THE A.P.C PRESIDENTIAL TICKET 2015: BUHARI, ATIKU AND KWANKWASO WHO WILL FLY THE FLAG OF THE PARTY AND DEFEAT THE JONATHAN? (4) (The political comparative analysis) By Abbati Bako, psc, bsis, mti,Kent,UK Continuation Atiku Abubakar The Atiku Abubakar, the grand son of Atiku Abdulkadir, the son of Abubakar (Garba) and Hajiya Kande (the only son to the couples) was born on November 25,1946 in Jada, Adamawa state of North Eastern Nigeria. He was enrolled at Jada primary school as Atiku Kojoli, the name of Atikus village (as it happened in northern Nigeria in those days as children feeling bashful to mention the names of their fathers---the Aminu Kano, Isyaku Kiru, Abubakar Tafawa balewa, Shehu Shagari, Yahaya Gusau etc). His father Abubakar (Garba) passed away at age 35 and then the young Atiku Abubakar was at the age of 11. A graduate of Adamawa Provincial Secondary school, School of Hygiene, Kano and Institute of Administrations Law School, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU). A trained health worker, Lawyer, customs officer, businessman and politician. His Excellency Atiku Abubakar Joined politics when his political mentor late General Shehu Musa Yaraduwa said to him that I think youll make a good politician. Why dont you join me in politics. So, Atiku Abubakar became a close confidante and trustworthy to late General Shehu Musa Yaradua. He was subsequently, appointed as campaign coordinator to Shehu Yaradua, the Presidential aspirant (then) in 1992. When the current democratic transition was initiated by the General Abdussalamu Abubakar in 1999; Atiku Abubakar was among the key figures of PDP party in Nigeria. Politics being of competing values, interest and ambition, Atiku Abubakar initially wanted to become the governor of Adamawa State, but the PDP party directed him to take the challenge of becoming Vice President to the then President Olusegun Obasanjo. Therefore, he served as Vice President of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007. Atiku Abubakar intended to become the Presidential aspirant of his party PDP in 2007, but due to skirmishes and political shenanigans in the party; it became difficult for him to get the Presidential ticket of the party. So, he lost to late President Umaru Musa Yaradu the junior brother to his political mentor Shehu Musa Yaradua. He went to various courts as to whether he could get the ticket of the party PDP, but in vain. He then cross carpeted to the Action Congress (AC) and contested for the Presidential ticket of the party but he lost to Umaru Yaradua and became third position with only 4m+votes (GMB was at the second position in the contest of 2007). And again, he cross carpeted back to his old party (PDP) and contested again for the ticket of the party PDP in 2011 and competed with the current President Jonathan and lost again. Immediately after the formation of the APC party by the opposition parties, Atiku Abubakar formed his own political party (probably the political icon doesnt have experts that specialize in political analysis, political body language and paralinguistic sign that can analyze the past, the present and the future) named PDM. But considering time frame of elections of 2015, he abandoned the party PDM and joined APC party. He his now among the stakeholders of the party. It was last week that Atiku Abubakar announced his intention to vie for the ticket of the party in the coming elections of 2015. Atiku Abubakar is a democrat and has tremendously contributed in the emergence of political democracy in Nigeria. He is wealthy and a political strategist. But some analysts opined that he lost his chances to become President in PDP party since 2003. And again, some Nigerians see him as the best option having been Vice President for 8 years; rich with experience in the governability of democratic system. He knows in and out of Nigeria and all Nigerians know of him. Both internal and external political stakeholders (he is politically and bussiness-wise well connected both at home and abroad) know who Atiku is, his performances in the past and what he can offer to Nigerians. Can Atiku Abubakar win the ticket of APC party against Buhari or Kwankwaso? To be continued on Atiku Abubakar and Kwankwaso, In Sha Allah Abbati Bako, psc, bsis, mti,Kent,UK
