THE JEFFERSONS! 1975-1985 Moving on up to the east side...to a deluxe apartment in the sky... The Jeffersons is one of the long running sitcoms of all time, with 11 seasons. I was always under the assumption that it was a 70s show with its reruns playing into the 80s. Not the case. As some of the highest rated seasons came in the early 80s. Originally The Jeffersons were Archie Bunkers neighbors on All in the Family, till they moved on up. The show focused on George and Louise Jefferson, but often the wisecracking Florence Johnston, The Jeffersons housekeeper, played by Marla Gibbs, often stole the show cracking on George. The show ended without a proper series finale. But the Jeffersons did okay for themselves as they came back nearly ten years later in 1996 to buy the Banks family house on the show The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
