TO: [email protected] Dear Dr. Moniz, Thank you so much for offering to help Japan with the dangerous fuel removal and decommission of the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant. I am so happy that Japan has officially accepted your help. We have read the reports about the possible dire consequences from even one mishap in the exacting fuel removal process, and we are truly terrified. We know that one mistake could cause an out-of-control cascading nuclear reaction equal to 15,000 Hiroshima bombs, essentially causing a nuclear winter for the planet. We are looking to you and our government to safely get us through this crisis. It is hard to sleep at night, knowing that the our very lives are in hands of TEPCO. Clearly, they are ill-equipped to handle a disaster of this magnitude. We look to you to get us through. We have to know, we have to be completely sure, that the US will ensure our safety during the fuel removal. This is our top priority. We want to live. We want real decommissioning of Fukushima, without any more dumping of radioactive water in our Global Pacific. Those of us on the West Coast of the US are at real risk; please dont sacrifice our West Coast any further. As a native Californian, my heart is broken at what is going on. I wish I could count on my government to protect us and our children. WE ARE AWARE THAT THE US HAS THE MOST INFLUENCE IN THIS ARENA; Japan and the world will follow our lead. Please, Dr. Moniz, we urge you to enlist the best minds and the best technology available, to decommission Fukushima WITHOUT DUMPING IN THE PACIFIC and without burning unfiltered waste into the atmosphere. We know the technology exists, we know it is avoidable... WE ARE COUNTING ON YOU TO PROTECT NORTH AMERICA, JAPAN, NORTHERN HEMISPHERE AND THE WORLD.
